Baptism (a burial in water) is a public profession of faith, a moral and spiritual cleansing by the remission of sins. We then have a High Priest, a mediator through whom we can draw near with a true heart, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience. The health of our natural bodies depends greatly on what we drink: we can poison our bodies with some forms of liquid and with other forms produce drunkenness. The Scriptures speak of certain religious views as wine by which nations have been made drunk.

The history of Christianity shows how the original purity has been polluted by pagan practices and teachings since the first century. We need to drink freely of that “living water” in its original purity which is able to make us wise unto salvation.
“How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy Word.” This is the way in which we prevent spiritual disease and promote spiritual growth if we “cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
